Pinterest for Business & Keyword Research Warning!

Updated on March 26, 2015 by tabita

Here at Web Gnomes, we stay on top of the ever-changing world of Internet Marketing so you don’t have to. We enjoy learning new tricks of the trade and putting them to practice in the work that we do for our esteemed clients. Here is some of the most helpful Internet marketing info we came across this week:

56 Ways to Market Your Business on Pinterest

OK – I got totally distracted while reading this article by Beth Hayden. As much as I don’t want to add another social media site to my portfolio, one can no longer ignore Pinterest. So now I have a couple of boards out there and will be adding more. (Feel free to follow me!)

The numbers speak for themselves:

In January 2012, Pinterest drove greater traffic to websites than LinkedIn, Google Plus, Reddit, and Youtube — combined. ~Beth Hayden

Bookmark this article and use it as a reference when you’re ready to start taking advantage of this new social media network. Your business will thank you.

How Pinterest Is Becoming the Next Big Thing in Social Media for Business

Not convinced yet? This article by Jason Falls of Social Media Explorer provides additional insight into how Pinterest can help your business.

He also reminds us that like everything else online, it’s about quality content:

One thing is clear whether you’re on Pinterest for personal or business reasons: the best images — be they funny, beautiful or thought provoking — attract the most attention and followers. ~Jason Falls

Be Careful Using AdWords for Keyword Research

We certainly use the AdWords Keyword Tool as part of our keyword research and advise our community to do the same. However, as Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz eloquently points out, it’s important to be careful when you do so.

Running discovery-focused searches in AdWords may not show you all the valuable/high-volume keyword phrases connected to a word/phrase. ~Rand Fishkin

The main point of the article is that Google doesn’t show you all the possible phrases for a given keyword phrase – even if they generate good traffic. Rand provides a few suggestions for overcoming this challenge:

  1. Test keywords by running Google AdWords campaigns (if you have the budget!)
  2. Make sure to narrow down searches in the AdWords Keyword Tool. Exact match may give you results that you don’t see in broad search.
  3. Use your own analytics to find new keyword phrases that you may not be targeting in an optimal fashion.

Infographic Found on Pinterest

One delightful discovery I made today is that Pinterest is like a candy bag of infographics. Here’s one that explains why SEO is important (we like that!):
