Since we work in both the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising fields, articles that talk about how they work together always excite me (yes, I need to get out more!).
This Search Engine Watch article by Adam Audette takes a good, deep look at some of the cool areas to explore as it relates to integrating SEO & PPC. Specifically, he calls out these three:
- Landing Page Snippet Text in PPC Ad Copy: Google is experimenting with showing snippets of text from the landing page in AdWords ads. World are colliding and it’s pretty exciting!
- Focusing on Competitive Search: The point here is that in both PPC and SEO, it’s important to segment out the “competitive” searches from the “brand” searches in order properly to determine the success of a campaign.
- Understanding Traffic Value: This is solved pretty well for PPC, but we need a mechanism to understand the traffic value of organic search results impressions, and thus the value we’re getting out of our SEO efforts. The author highlights that SEO practitioners should at least test “snippet text” in the organic search results, considering that click-through-rates (CTR) certainly is tracked by Google’s algorithms.
