YouTube Analytics – An Introduction

Updated on July 27, 2014 by tabita

Last week, YouTube introduced YouTube Analytics. This is an upgrade from the previous “Insight” feature of YouTube.

By using YouTube Analytics, you can find out how many views a given video had, where your viewers live, where they played your video, and much more.

This short video provides an introduction to YouTube Analytics:

Hello and welcome to Gnome Tips. Today we’ll introduce you to YouTube Analytics.

If you have videos on YouTube you can – and should- use YouTube Analytics.

To get started, click the arrow in the top right corner of your main YouTube page and select “Video Manager.”

Find the video you want to analyze and click “Analytics.”

This takes you to the Overview page. Here you can see at a quick glance how your video is performing and interesting information about your visitors.

By default, it shows analytics for the last 30 days, but you can change it to whatever you want. I’m going to select October 1, 2011 to today.

On the Overview page, you can see the number of views, new subscribers, and various engagement metrics such as likes and comments. You can also view the demographics of the visitors and where your video was played.

You can click on any overview widget to see a more detailed report. (Click Views)
You can also get to detailed reports from the left sidebar.

Finally, you can download any report to view the numbers in a spreadsheet.

Take advantage of this information to publish more of the type of content that generates views and improve your videos for better engagement.
